Kent Police arrested a 29-year-old Renton man for investigation of vehicular assault in connection with a T-bone collision Wednesday morning on Kent’s East Hill that critically injured his passenger, a 27-year-old Renton man.
The collision occurred at about 8:08 a.m. Wednesday in the 23500 block of 132nd Avenue Southeast.
The driver of a late model Volvo sedan was reportedly under the influence of both legal and illegal drugs when he lost control of his car while driving south in the northbound lane of 132nd Avenue Southeast, according to a Kent Police media release.
The front-passenger side of the Volvo collided with the front end of an oncoming Kent School District truck that was delivering meals to local schools.
Kent firefighters found the driver of the sedan outside his car with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by firefighters.
King County medics transported the passenger to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he remained Wednesday with critical injuries, according to the police.
The delivery truck driver, an employee of the Kent School District, was uninjured.
The Renton driver has been booked into the city of Kent jail pending charges to be filed with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Police continue to work on reconstructing the events leading up to the crash.

Police kept the street closed in both directions for several hours to investigate the accident. The wreck snarled morning traffic along the heavily traveled commuter route.
