Kent firefighters rescued a man from the top of his car after the vehicle stalled in flood waters at 6 a.m. Friday in the 22000 block of 76th Avenue South.
The driver reportedly tried to make a U-turn on 76th Avenue South and accidently drove into a ditch alongside the street, according to a Kent Fire Department media release. The ditch might have been hidden because of the deep standing water on the street.
The driver climbed out of his submerged car and onto the roof of the vehicle.
Firefighters used a ladder, personal flotation device and rope to rescue the man. The man was not injured. Fire officials did not identify the man or release his age.
Drivers are reminded to avoid standing or running water on streets, fire officials said. It is difficult to gauge the depth of the water, or to determine where road washouts or ditches may be located.
