Kent Police busted a man for investigation of disorderly conduct, malicious mischief and tampering with fire equipment after he reportedly threatened people at a Fred Meyer store with a fire extinguisher.

Kent Police busted a man for investigation of disorderly conduct, malicious mischief and tampering with fire equipment after he reportedly threatened people at a Fred Meyer store with a fire extinguisher.

The incident occurred on Feb. 15 at the Fred Meyer, 10201 S.E. 240th St., according to the police report.

Store security saw the man drinking liquor inside the store and asked him to leave. The man left but then began smoking marijuana outside near the store entrance.

When asked to leave the area by store employees, the man refused. He grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher off the wall and came back inside the store. He started to walk down the aisles threatening to spray people with the extinguisher. At one point, he also picked up a glass vase and smashed it on the floor.

The man didn’t talk to police about the incident. Officers transported the man to the city jail.

Man obstructs officer

Officers arrested a man in his 20s for investigation of obstructing an officer after he reportedly refused to take his hands out of his pockets following a dispute at a bank.

Officers responded to a call at 1:56 p.m. on Feb. 12 about a man upset with a teller at the Bank of America branch inside the Safeway, 20830 108th Ave. S.E., in Panther Lake, according to the police report. The teller wouldn’t cash the man’s check because it had the wrong date on it.

The man yelled at the teller, exited the store but then returned. An officer asked the man to leave the bank. He initially refused to leave but then began to walk out of the store as the officer followed him.

Once the man got outside, he reportedly turned around and began walking toward the officer. The man still had his hands inside the pockets of a thigh-length jacket.

The officer noted in his report that because of numerous recent police shootings in the country and the man’s irrational behavior, he became concerned for his safety. He told the man four times to remove his hands from his pockets but the man refused to do so. The officer then grabbed the man by the wrist and used his foot and elbow to take the man to the ground.

The officer saw an empty gun holster on the man’s hip and placed him in handcuffs on the sidewalk outside of the store. Police searched the man but didn’t find a gun. The man declined to talk to officers about the incident.

Wife slaps husband inside truck

Officers arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she allegedly slapped her husband in the face during a dispute inside a truck at about 1:26 a.m. on Feb. 13 near 64th Avenue South and Meeker Street.

An officer in a patrol vehicle saw the fight as he drove past the truck, according to the police report. The officer walked up to the truck and ended up pulling the woman out of it.

“My wife is going crazy,” the husband said.

The wife had the smell of alcohol on her, according to the officer. He placed her in a patrol vehicle. The woman then began to kick the rear passenger door and window. Other officers took the woman out of that vehicle and took her to the city jail in their patrol vehicle.

The husband had a scratch near his eye and a bite mark on his arm. He told police he had picked up his wife after she had been at a bar along Meeker Street. The report didn’t indicate why the woman was upset with her husband.

Man steals from Target

Police arrested a man for investigation of third-degree theft and possession of stolen property after store security reportedly caught him taking items at about 4:59 p.m. on Feb. 12 from Target, 26301 104th Ave. S.E.

The man had put several items into his backpack and pockets and exited the store without paying for the products, according to the police report. Store security stopped the man outside the store, brought him back inside and called 911 to report the theft.

When an officer arrived, he discovered the man also had a stolen debit card in his possession. The man told police he had found the card after he broke into a vehicle.
