A King County Sheriff’s deputy shot and seriously wounded a man with a knife during a domestic violence disturbance Sept. 2.

The incident occurred about 10:50 p.m. inside an apartment at 10002 Des Moines Memorial Drive (Boulevard Park neighborhood, unincorporated King County).

Two deputies had responded to a 911 call at the apartment. Reportedly a man was assaulting his wife at that location. Deputies arrived and the man was shot about two minutes later. The wife and two other females were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

The suspect is 36 years old and lives at the location, as does his 35 year-old wife. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. There is a current No Contact Order in place prohibiting contact between the man and his wife and children. He is also a convicted felon with two assault third degree convictions.

Sheriff’s deputies were last at the apartment in August of 2010 when the man was arrested on domestic violence charges.

The deputy who fired the shot is a veteran officer with at least 25 years working at the sheriff’s office.

The joint investigation of the shooting will be conducted by the Major Crimes Unit of the sheriff’s office, and detectives from the Bothell Police Department.
