A man and woman were killed and an infant injured in a car crash Sunday night in Kent along Canyon Drive near Weiland Street.

All three were in a vehicle traveling eastbound on Canyon Drive when the male driver made a left turn toward Weiland Street and collided with a SUV going westbound on Canyon Drive, said Kent Police spokesman Jarod Kasner in a Monday phone interview.

Justin Riggins-Miller, 22, of Seattle, and Jasmarae Chapman, 20, of Kent, each died at the scene from injuries in the accident, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident occurred at about 7:27 p.m. Kasner said he didn’t know the relation between Riggins-Miller and Chapman or the child in a car seat in the back. All were wearing seat belts. Riggins-Miller was the driver.

Paramedics transported the infant, between the ages of 1 and 2, to a hospital as a precaution with minor injuries, Kasner said. He said he didn’t have an exact number of how many people were in the SUV but nobody suffered life-threatening injuries in that vehicle.

“The preliminary report doesn’t suggest alcohol, drugs or erratic driving,” Kasner said.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
