Miami of Ohio University’s graduate students from Kent to study conservation globally | Briefs

Kent’s Susan Tyler and Holly Bork, graduate students from Miami of Ohio University’s Project Dragonfly, will travel to Central and South America this summer to engage in action projects on vital human and ecological issues.

Tyler will travel to Baja in July to study desert and marine landscapes through ecological and social field methods. Tyler is a new master’s student in the Global Field Program at the university.

Bork will travel to Paraguay in July to study co-develop an Eco-Leadership program with school partner Para La Tierra. Bork is a master’s student in the Advanced Inquiry Program at the university. Bork is a structural design engineer for The Boeing Co.

Since the program began 13 years ago, Project Dragonfly’s Earth Expeditions graduate courses have engaged more than 2,000 people in firsthand educational and scientific research at critical conservation field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas. Dragonfly is in the department of biology at Miami University, a state university in Oxford, Ohio.

Eng (freshman, animal sciences) made the spring term honor roll at Oregon State University.

The following students from Kent were among the more than 900 undergraduate, adult degree and graduate-level students who received diplomas in commencement ceremonies at George Fox University (Newberg, Ore.) this spring: Marisa Carpenter (master’s, social work degree); Emily Jazbutis (B.A., accounting); Britta Walen (B.A., English); and Emily Warner (B.A., theatre).
