More than 7,000 Kent customers of PSE still without power Monday

More than 7,000 Kent customers of Puget Sound Energy remained without power Monday morning.

Last week's storm knocked tree branches down along West Meeker Street and many other roads throughout Kent.

Last week's storm knocked tree branches down along West Meeker Street and many other roads throughout Kent.

More than 7,000 Kent customers of Puget Sound Energy remained without power Monday morning.

PSE crews continue to work around the clock to restore electric service to the remaining customers who lost power following last week’s series of snow, freezing rain and windy weather, according to a PSE media release. Approximately 87 percent of PSE’s customer are now back on line.

As of 6 a.m., approximately 53,000 customers are without power, primarily in Thurston, Pierce and King counties.

Cities with the most customers without power included Olympia (7,791), Kent (7,118), Auburn (5,502) and Federal Way (3262).

Since early Wednesday, PSE crews have restored power to more than 360,000 customers in Western Washington. Kent had more than 25,000 customers without power going into the weekend.

Over the weekend, crews restored power to 146,000 customers. Restoration work has been completed in 15 areas where either entire communities or a portion of those communities were without power: Hobart, Bellevue, Bothell, Carnation/Tolt areas, Factoria area, Kenmore, Newport Hills/Newcastle, Redmond, Fairwood, Greenwater, Ravensdale, Renton area, Edgewood, Milton, Steamboat Island.

Now our work is more time-consuming as crews go from neighborhood to neighborhood where electric service will get restored in much smaller numbers, such as to five, 10 or 20 customers at a time.

Since the storm began, PSE has now repaired and re-energized 53 transmission lines, 70 substations and 326 distribution circuits that lost power during the series of snow, ice and wind storms.

Crews have been and will continue to work around the clock until every customer is restored.

There are approximately 280 power line crews in the region, to repair damages to the electric system and bring power back on. Counting the crews, crew coordinators, damage assessors and support staff, nearly 2,000 people are assisting the restoration effort.

Customers without power can access estimated restoration times on PSE.com Service Alert page, via Facebook, or by calling PSE at 1-888-225-5773. Given the magnitude of the damage caused by this week’s storms, PSE predicts small pockets of customers in some areas will remain out of power through mid-next week.
