Most of city of Kent streets reopened Saturday, Dec. 20 after being closed for several days due to water over roadway.
That includes a stretch of West Valley Highway on the south end of town between Willis Street and South 277th Street.
“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is decreasing outflows from the Howard Hanson Dam, which we expect will continue to lower river levels and reduce additional flooding risk heading into the weekend,” according to a Dec. 20 city of Kent Facebook post.
The dam on the upper Green River helps control flooding in Auburn, Kent, Renton and Tukwila.
Other roads that reopened include stretches of South 277th Street, Green River Road, 148th Avenue SE, Frager Road and Russell Road.
The only roads that remained closed were South 262nd Street at 78th Avenue South to 27232 72nd Ave. S., just prior to South 272nd Street; and 78th Avenue South from South 277th Street to South 262nd Street.
