New tolling system coming to State Route 167 in Kent

WSDOT completing project this fall between Renton and Auburn

New tolling rules will start later this fall along State Route 167 in Kent as part of the new toll equipment installed between Renton and Auburn.

The SR 167 express toll lanes will have rules that are consistent with the Interstate 405 express toll lanes, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). A start date for the new tolling has not yet been released by WSDOT.

What you need to know:

• A Good To Go! Flex Pass is required for carpoolers to use the lanes for free, and motorcyclists will need a motorcycle pass to ride for free.

• Anyone using the express toll lanes without a Good To Go! account will receive a bill in the mail and pay the higher Pay By Mail rate.

• Drivers with a Good To Go! pass will continue to save $2 on every toll.

• Anyone with or without Good To Go! can use the express toll lanes. Drivers without Good To Go! will receive a bill in the mail and pay $2 dollars more per toll than someone with a pass.

• Regular, non-tolled lanes remain open if you do not want to pay a toll or get a Good To Go!

• For drivers with a Good To Go! pass, tolls range from $1 to $15 depending on traffic. The rate is assessed every 5 minutes to help manage the flow.

• The lanes are free from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day.

• The toll sign shows the price displayed next to your exit. You will be charged based on where you enter and exit the lanes, meaning you only pay for the distance you travel. You only pay one toll, and do not add up the tolls for each zone you pass through. There are three new toll zones.

• A new southbound auxiliary lane Kent for smoother merging between SR 516 and S. 277th Street.

• Dashed lines on the road mean you can enter or exit the lanes. It is illegal to cross over a double white line.
