One-car collision on I-5 near Southcenter kills two 19-year-olds

According to the incident report, neither the passenger or driver were wearing seatbelts.

Two 19-year-olds were killed in a vehicular accident that took place on I-5 near Southcenter mall early in the morning on Sunday.

At about 12:19 a.m. Nov. 14, a vehicle was driving northbound on I-5 near Southcenter at a high rate of speed when it lost control, according to a Washington State Patrol incident report. The vehicle spun out on the freeway and impacted an attenuator barrier on the driver’s broadside of the vehicle.

WSP says the car was upside down on top of the barrier when first responders arrived and “troopers were unable to enter [the] vehicle to render aid due to extensive damage to the vehicle.”

The vehicle’s driver, Victor M. Castro from Seattle, and the passenger, Alexa Gaytan Solis from Renton, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. According to the incident report, neither were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

A GoFundMe fundraising page has been started to fund Gaytan Solis’s funeral, which can be found here.

“Alexa was a wonderful sister, daughter and friend who touched the lives of those around her. She leaves behind her mother, father, brother, sister and many family members, even Blu, her Husky whom she loved dearly,” read the GoFundMe page. “Alexa was only 19-years-old and was going to PIMA medical institute to become a certified Medical Assistant while working part time to help with her schooling costs.”
