Pedestrian crossing I-5 in Kent struck, killed by pickup

Northbound Friday, March 25 on freeway near State Route 516

A 35-year-old Lakewood man was crossing Interstate 5 in Kent when he was hit and killed by a vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 4:32 p.m. Friday, March 25 along northbound I-5 near State Route 516, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 2020 Ram 1500 pickup driven by a 63-year-old Ocean Park man was northbound in lane 5 just north of South 260th Street, according to the State Patrol. The vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the northbound lanes from east to west in the HOV lane.

Dominic G. Njuguna died at the scene, according to the State Patrol. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The freeway was blocked for about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
