Pedestrian killed in Kent hit-and-run on Pacific Highway South | Update

Kent man, 41, identified by medical examiner; police arrest Seattle man, 32, in May 22 incident

Kent Police arrested a 32-year-old Seattle man for investigation of felony hit-and-run after he reportedly struck and killed a pedestrian at about 2:27 a.m. Thursday, May 22 in the 24000 block of Pacific Highway South on the West Hill and then fled the scene.

A 41-year-old Kent man was crossing Pacific Highway South outside of a crosswalk when a silver SUV struck him, according to a May 22 Kent Police news release. Despite lifesaving efforts by medics and firefighters, the man died at the scene.

Marco Antonio Cruz Cuenca died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the May 22 King County Medical Examiner’s report.

Witnesses told officers that the vehicle fled the scene. A short time later, Des Moines Police officers located the suspect vehicle and detained it near the 26000 block of 20th Avenue South. The vehicle had significant front-end damage, according to police.

The SUV was occupied by a driver and three passengers. The passengers, three Federal Way residents ages 26, 30 and 35, cooperated with the investigation and confirmed the Seattle man as the driver, according to police. They each confirmed they were in the vehicle when the collision occurred.

It is unknown if intoxication was a factor in the collision, according to police. The Kent Police Traffic Unit will examine the circumstances that led up to the collision.
