Pianist Alpin Hong, in Kent for a March 18 concert, also took time to stop by a few schools for educational outreach assemblies.

Hong presented his “From Movies to Games, Classically Trained” assembly March 16-18 at Mill Creek Middle School, Meridian Middle School, Meeker Middle School and Kent-Meridian High School.

Hong, a Michigan native, has earned a reputation as a modern day Pied Piper for his American tours and performances. His combination of humor, emotion and dazzling technique brings audiences of all ages to their feet.

He performs at 7:30 p.m. March 18 at the Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center, 10020 SE 256th St., as part of the city of Kent Spotlight Series.

Hong’s extensive classical training (a master’s degree from The Julliard School), matched with his background in skateboarding, snowboarding, martial arts and video games forms a creative force unmatched in its youthful vivacity and boundless energy, according to a city media release.

He made his orchestral debut with the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Symphony at the age of 10. He later moved to Los Angeles.

Tickets are $26 for adults, $24 for seniors ages 55 and older and $20 for youth ages 25 and younger.
