Police Blotter: Punch to the nose lands brother in hot water

Assault

An argument between two brothers turned into a fight during at about 4 a.m. March 21 at an apartment in the 10600 block of Southeast 254th Place.

Police arrested one of the brothers for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly punched his brother in the face, according to the police report. The brother who had been hit called 911 to report his brother had punched him. He said he arrived home to find his brother extremely intoxicated and sleeping on the kitchen floor.

When the man tried to wake his brother to tell him to go upstairs, an argument broke out. The brother who had been sleeping then punched the other brother three times in the face. Officers noted that the brother who had been punched had red marks on his nose and near his right eye.

The brothers have been roommates for about one year.

Drugs

Kent Police found five plastic bags of marijuana and a loaded pistol inside a car just before 9 p.m. March 22 after they pulled over the driver for not wearing a seat belt. The stop occurred near Titus Street and Central Avenue North.

Police arrested the driver, a man, for investigation of marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession, and having a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

An officer in a patrol car spotted the man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car stopped at a red light. The man did not have a seat belt on as required under state law. After the officer pulled him over, the driver told him the seat belt was broken. Another officer reportedly noticed a strong odor of marijuana inside the car.

The man told officers he had a couple of “hits” of marijuana before he left home, but claimed he did not have any marijuana in the car.

A police dog searched the vehicle and helped officers find a shoebox with five bags of marijuana and a digital scale. The officers also found a loaded pistol in the center console. The substance in the plastic bags tested positive for marijuana. The bags held a total of about 15 grams of the substance.

Theft

Flea- and tick-control chemicals reportedly landed a man in hot water with police March 20.

The incident took place about 2 p.m. from a store in the 10200 block of Southeast 240th Street.

Police arrested the man for investigation of third-degree theft

The arrest came after a store security officer said he saw the man use a stick of deodorant in the store, put it back on a shelf, and then take three boxes of flea and tick control and bring them to the customer service desk for a cash refund.

After the man received the refund, store security stopped the man and called police.

The man confessed to police he planned the incident, because he had watched someone else pull off a similar theft. He also said he had done the theft before at a different store. The man told officers he needed the money for food and gas and that he wanted to buy some chicken. He said he took the flea and tick control because each box was worth about $20.

Prostitution

Police arrested a woman for investigation of prostitution loitering March 20 on the 2300 block of Pacific Highway South, after they spotted her watching cars over her shoulder, and then ran a background check on her. The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m.

The officer had stopped to ask the woman what she was doing along the stretch of highway. The woman replied, “Just walking around.”

The officer arrested her after a background revealed she had been stopped by Kent Police and given a verbal warning to stay out of the area last year. The woman told police she had just come up to Kent from Oregon and had a room at a nearby motel. She initially denied that police had stopped her last year, but then said she thought that was farther up on Pacific Highway.

Police searched the woman and found cash, a condom and a bottle of personal lubricant.
