When Kent Police heard a woman screaming and nobody would answer their repeated knocks on the apartment door, officers kicked open the door before making an arrest in a domestic violence incident at about 10:51 a.m. March 19 in the 25200 block of 108th Place Southeast.

When Kent Police heard a woman screaming and nobody would answer their repeated knocks on the apartment door, officers kicked open the door before making an arrest in a domestic violence incident at about 10:51 a.m. March 19 in the 25200 block of 108th Place Southeast.

Officers arrested a 22-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault, third-degree malicious mischief, interfering with a report of domestic violence and obstruction of justice in connection with the incident at his girlfriend’s apartment, according to the police report.

Police received a call from a person who saw a man drag a woman into an apartment from an outside hallway.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they heard an argument and knocked on the door. A woman asked who was there and when officers replied “Kent Police” and told her to open the door, the door remained closed. Police then heard the woman scream.

An officer kicked the door about a half-dozen times before he broke it open. They yelled for the occupants to come outside. The girlfriend showed up first followed by the boyfriend.

The girlfriend told officers she had dated the man since November and that he stayed a few nights a week at her apartment. She said they started to argue about a text message and when he started to swear at her, she told him to leave the apartment.

The boyfriend refused to leave and then started to pull the woman’s hair in a bedroom and backed her into a glass closet door that broke. He also followed her into a bathroom and pulled her hair some more.

Officers found clumps of hair in the bedroom and bathroom as well as a broken closet door in the bedroom.

The boyfriend told police that they argued about him going to a club with friends the night before. He said he planned to marry the woman. He denied he assaulted her.

Officers discovered that the man had a warrant out of King County for a violation of a domestic protection order that another woman had filed against him.
