Robbery

A Kent man immediately called 911 when he observed a man pointing a handgun at a clerk at about 4:22 a.m. June 5 at a service-station store in the 26200 block of 116th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.

The man with the gun fled on foot. The witness, in a car, followed the man until he lost sight of him along Southeast 264th Street.

About 10 minutes later, Kent Police arrested an 18-year-old transient for investigation of first-degree robbery in connection with the incident. Officers used a police dog to find the man hiding in bushes in the 11700 block of Southeast 264th Street.

Officers found more than $400 cash in the man’s possession. Later in the morning, police found a Ruger .357 magnum handgun in the bushes near where they located the man.

The clerk told officers a man walked into the store and asked for a pack of cigarettes. The clerk grabbed the cigarettes and turned back toward the him. That’s when the would-be customer displayed a gun and said, “Give me money.”

The suspect told police said he’d needed money to go visit his daughter in Montana or to have his daughter come here to visit him. He told officers he paid $75 for the gun that he bought from a man on the street. Police found out the gun had been reported stolen from a 2007 residential burglary in Sumner. The suspect also had a 2008 warrant from King County for first-degree theft.

Assault

A fight broke out between a boyfriend and girlfriend at about 11:53 p.m. June 5 at a store parking lot in the 21100 block of 91st Avenue South.

Police arrested a 21-year-old woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault in connection with the incident, according to the police report.

A store employee called police after he reportedly saw the woman slap and shove the man in the chest. The employee told officers the woman wanted a ride home, but her boyfriend did not want to give her a ride.

During the argument that ensued, the woman reportedly tried to grab the keys from the man. When she failed to get the keys, she started to slap and shove him, according to the report. The woman told officers she did not assault her boyfriend. The boyfriend also denied to officers that he’d been attacked.

Drugs

Police arrested a 45-year-old woman for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after they stopped her as she walked along Pacific Highway South in Kent.

Officers initially stopped the woman because they spotted her trying to make eye contact with drivers along a section of the highway known for prostitution activity, according to the police report.

Police discovered the woman had a warrant out of Kent for possession of drug paraphernalia.

When officers searched her, they found a glass pipe in her clothing. The woman denied the pipe belonged to her, although she admitted to officers that she smokes.

Theft

A store security guard saw a woman reportedly fill up her purse with clothing, food and feminine-care products at about 4:53 p.m. June 5 at a store in the 21100 block of 91st Avenue South.

Police arrested the 21-year-old woman for investigation of third-degree theft, according to the police report.

The security guard told police he’d seen the woman take items off of shelves and stick them in her purse. She then reportedly walked out of the store with no attempt to pay for the items. A store employee stopped her in the parking lot.

The woman declined to talk to police about the incident.
