Rotary Club honors Kentwood’s Barden, Canning as Students of the Month

Kentwood High School’s Matthew Barden and Rachel Canning are the Rotary Club of Kent Students of the Month.

Barden and Canning, seniors, are recognized for their work in career and technical programs.

Barden’s CET programs include computer applications, creative cooking, digital design, marketing and sports medicine. He designed the Kentwood Invictus logo and the logo for the Kentwood Sports Medicine Program. Barden is also on the varsity soccer and wrestling teams. He plans to attend a four-year college to prepare for a career in either sports medicine or graphic design.

Canning’s CET programs focused on marketing, where she worked with local businesses and advanced to state in DECA. She also interned at the popular Kent International Festival. She is active in ASB and Conk Crew as well as leading the youth group at her church. She plans to attend a four-year college to study market analysis and statistics or digital design.
