Seattle Sun Tan announced Friday the acquisition of the Desert Sun Tanning Salons franchise system, including two locations in Auburn and one in Kent.

With 34 Seattle Sun Tan locations throughout the Puget Sound area and 60 Desert Sun locations in Washington state, Seattle Sun Tan will become the fourth largest tanning salon operator in the U.S. with just under 100 locations, according to a Seattle Sun media release.

Desert Sun is in Kent at 13003 S.E. Kent Kangley Road and in Auburn at 1247 Auburn Way North and at 1811 Howard Road.

“When we opened the first Seattle Sun Tan location in 2004, we had an outstanding response from our customers and set a goal of expanding to 12 locations by 2012,” said Seattle Sun Tan founder Scott Swerland in the media release. “We have surpassed that number by nearly eightfold with the Desert Sun acquisition. Seattle Sun Tan’s mantra of providing state-of-the-art equipment and excellent customer service has allowed for this success, and we are thrilled to bring Desert Sun under our umbrella.”

Prior to its acquisition by Seattle Sun Tan, Desert Sun was owned and operated by Palm Beach Tan, Inc., based in Dallas, Texas. Swerland will continue to run all franchised Desert Sun locations under the Desert Sun brand with the eventual goal of continuing to expand both Desert Sun and Seattle Sun Tan in Washington and beyond.

Founded in 2001, Desert Sun operates 55 franchise locations and five corporate stores throughout Washington state.

Seattle Sun Tan has three locations in Kent, on the East Hill, West Hill and at the Kent Station shopping mall.
