Seattle Thunderbirds defenseman Shea Theodore has been invited to attend Canada’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp, Aug. 3-6 at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto.

“Shea pushed his way into this group of players with his strong play last season,” said T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell. “He will be a significant contender to make this team.”

Hockey Canada has invited 40 players to the selection camp. Twenty-two will make the team. Theodore will be one of 12 defensemen competing for a spot on the team.

“It means a lot to me,” Theodore said. “It shows how hard I have worked and how far I have to go. It’s a great accomplishment and I am going to go to Toronto expecting to make the team.”

The Under-18 team will play in the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, and Breclav, Czech Republic, from Augu. 13-18.

Hockey Canada invited 13 players from the Western Hockey League to the selection camp.

In his rookie season last year, Theodore played 69 games and had four goals and 31 assists for 35 points. Theodore was selected by the T-Birds in the third round, 64th overall, in the 2010 Bantam Draft.
