Severe Weather Shelter in Kent to open Wednesday, Thursday nights

Low temperatures predicted to be 23 and 20 degrees

The city of Kent will open its Severe Weather Shelter on Wednesday and Thursday nights, Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, at Holy Spirit Church, 310 Third Ave. S.

The low Wednesday night low in Kent is predicted to be 23 degrees with wind between 15 and 17 mph, according to the National Weather Service. A high of 34 degrees is predicted for Thursday and a low of 20 degrees Thursday night.

The shelter will run from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

• Check-in from 9-10 p.m. is preferred

• Doors will close once capacity is reached

• Guests must stay in their assigned locations

• Bottled water and pre-packaged snacks will be available

• No re-entry upon exit

• Guests must vacate shelter by 7 a.m.

Note: The operation of the Kent Severe Weather Shelter is dependent on the availability of adequate staffing. Please direct all inquiries about volunteering and donations to Holy Spirit Church at 253-859-0444.
