Sound Transit seeks public input on transit-oriented development at future Overlake Village Station in Redmond

Sound Transit wants to hear what the public thinks about the future development of about two acres of land at the future Overlake Village Station in Redmond.

The land, which is roughly the size of two football fields, is being used to store construction equipment and house mobile offices while the future light rail station is being built. Once East Link opens in 2023, Sound Transit expects to make this land available for transit-oriented development (TOD).

Sound Transit is working with the City of Redmond to plan for the future TOD, which could provide hundreds of housing units to support the city’s growing population. The development could also include commercial, retail, or community space to help create a vibrant neighborhood with easy access to transit and the regional access to jobs, services and education it provides.

Members of the community can submit responses through an online survey, which is available now through July 12 at www.OverlakeVillageTOD.com. The survey is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian and Spanish.

Community feedback collected through this survey and interviews with community-based organizations later this summer will help the City of Redmond and Sound Transit identify priorities for transit-oriented development at the future Overlake Village Station.

This October, Sound Transit will expand light rail to the U District, Roosevelt and Northgate. In 2022, Tacoma Link will expand to the Hilltop neighborhood. In 2023 trains will reach Mercer Island, Bellevue and the Overlake area of Redmond. Link will reach Downtown Redmond, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood and Federal Way in 2024.
