State Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines, will face off against Republican challenger John Potter, of Burien, in the Nov. 8 general election.
Orwall had 67.9 percent (8,112 votes), Potter 27.8 percent (3,326) and Charles Schaefer 4.1 percent (493) in the primary results posted on Tuesday night by King County Elections for House District 33, Position No. 1, which includes Kent. The two candidates with the most votes in each race advance to the general election.
In the other District 33 House race, State Rep. Mia Su-Ling Gregerson, D-SeaTac, received 63.6 percent of the vote while Republican challenger Pamela Pollock, of Des Moines, had 36.3 percent.
In House District 47, which includes Kent’s East Hill, only two ran for each position so both advance to November. State Rep. Mark Hargrove, R-Covington, has 58.8 percent while Democratic challenger Brooke Valentine, of Black Diamond, has 41.1 percent for Position No. 1.
State Rep. Pat Sullivan, D-Covington, received 56.6 percent of the vote for Position No. 2 while Republican challenger Barry Knowles, of Covington, had 43.3 percent.
Elsewhere, King County Councilman Dave Upthegrove, D-Des Moines, whose district includes Kent, came up short in his race to be state Commissioner of Public Lands.
Steve McLaughlin, R-Seabeck, leads the state lands commissioner race with 38.4 percent (262,560 votes) followed by Hilary Franz, D-Bainbridge Island, with 20.8 percent (156,112) and Upthegrove with 13.5 percent (101,396). The top two advance to the general election.
