The state Transportation Commission will hold a public meeting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Olympia Room at the Holiday Inn, 22318 84th Ave. S., in Kent.
As part of the Transportation Commission’s community outreach efforts, transportation commissioners will meet with local, regional and tribal officials, public transportation providers and freight industry representatives.
The Commission will have a public comment period at 4:30 p.m.
The meeting will consist of a series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level.
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke, Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis and Covington Public Works Director Glenn Akramoff will discuss at 9:30 a.m. the transportation challenges and priorities from the city perspective.
Members of the Puget Sound Regional Council will give a presentation at 10:45 a.m. regarding Transportation 2040: The Next Regional Transportation Plan.
Speakers from Sound Transit, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, King County Transportation and the South County Area Transportation Board will talk at 11:30 a.m. about regional transportation challenges and successes.
The Commission will participate at 1:15 p.m. in a panel discussion with business, shipping, rail and port representatives as they talk about the changing dynamics of freight. A follow up panel of city, trucking and bicycling interests will provide a local perspective of freight movement issues in South King County.
State Department of Transportation staff will update the Commission on the status of Highway 167 and north-south connections at I-405, I-5 and SR 512.
The Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region.
