Expect strong winds Tuesday night throughout the Puget Sound area, including Kent, Tukwila, Covington and Maple Valley.
Wind is predicted to blow south to southeast 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph between 6 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to a wind advisory issued at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday by the Seattle office of the National Weather Service.
Winds will increase in the evening and peak in the late evening and early morning hours then gradually subside Wednesday morning. The strongest winds are expected to be at the coast and over the northwest interior.
Local power outages are possible. Winds this strong can snap small branches or topple small or shallow-rooted trees, according to the weather service.
A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or gusts of 45 to 57 mph are likely.
