The Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR) under its federal grant called the Collaborations to Understand Research and Ethics sponsored a learning learning experience for students at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.

Kent-Meridian students Cierra Gillespie, 15, and Kate Khazovan, 15 were among the participants.

The grant was used to engage high school students from in the scientific arena through activities not offered in traditional school curricula.

The CURE Biomedical Research Student Fellows Program allows students to meet researchers, learn about the breakthroughs in their fields, and what steps they can take to pursue careers. The students are incoming high school sophomores and juniors, the majority of who are from first generation families to the U.S.

The students went to three labs and for a three hours period of time July 1. A total of 12 students were involved.
