T-Birds stop ‘Tips, pull even for West’s No. 7 playoff spot

The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Everett Silvertips 4-1 Saturday night at the Comcast Arena in Everett.

The win moves the T-Birds into a tie for seventh place in the Western Conference playoff standings with a game in hand. The T-Birds, who broke a seven-game losing streak, and Vancouver Giants meet at 5:05 p.m. today at the ShoWare Center.

The Prince George Cougars defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-4 Saturday night. They are in ninth place three points behind the T-Birds and Silvertips.

Everett (21-34-1-4) went in front 1-0 when Manraj Hayer scored a power-play goal at 18:20 of the first period. Dawson Leedahl and Everett goalie Daniel Cotton had the assists.

Seattle (20-32-6-1) quickly came back scoring two goals in the last 1:08 of the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Justin Hickman and Mitch Elliot battled for the puck along the boards in the Everett zone. Hickman got the puck and found Alexander Delnov in the slot. Delnov snapped the puck over Cotton’s glove for his 18th of the season at 18:52 of the period.

The T-Birds took a 2-1 lead on Roberts Lipsbergs 22nd goal the season. Connor Honey carried the puck into the Everett zone moving right to left. Honey dropped the puck for Lipsbergs just inside the Everett blue line. Lipsbergs carried the puck into the high slot and beat Cotton with a wrist shot over the glove with 13 seconds left in the period.

Seattle outshot Everett 13-10 in the first period.

The Silvertips outshot Seattle 8-6 in the second period. The T-Birds led 19-18 in total shots after two periods.

Seattle went in front 3-1 at 14:06 of the third period just as a power play ended. Jerret Smith took a shot from the left point with traffic in front of Cotton. Adam Kambeitz deflected the shot past Cotton for the goal. Seth Swenson had the second assist on the goal.

Shea Theodore scored an empty-net goal with 21 seconds left in the game to ice the game for the T-Birds. Jared Hauf had an assist on the goal.

Seattle outshot Everett 9-3 in the third period and 28-21 in the game.

Seattle goalie Brandon Glover improved to 19-24-4-1 by stopping 20 of 21 shots.

Cotton is now 9-17-0-2 after making 24 saves on 27 shots.

T-Birds tickets are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
