The Seattle Thunderbirds hope to end the season with a bang Sunday night at the ShoWare Center.
The Thunderbirds (18-38-7-5 at press time) will be playing host to the Vancouver Giants at 5:05 p.m. in the team’s final game of its Western Hockey League schedule. (The T-Birds’ second-to-last game of the season is 7:05 p.m. Saturday against the Portland Winterhawks, also at the ShoWare Center.)
At Sunday’s final game, the Kentwood High boys basketball team, which is fresh off winning the Class 4A state title last Saturday, will be dropping the ceremonial first puck before the game.
The Thunderbirds have dropped two of three games against the Giants this season, most recently an 8-3 thrashing on Feb. 15.
Seattle is currently in last place in the WHL’s U.S. Division, well behind fourth-place Portland (42-25-2-1). Vancouver entered the week atop the WHL’s B.C. Division at 40-24-2-3.
Despite a pair of losses to Vancouver, Seattle’s Prab Rai, who leads the team with 40 goals, has had his way against the Giants. Rai scored two goals against the Giants in a 5-0 victory on Nov. 15 and added two more in the Feb. 15 loss. In addition to leading the Thunderbirds in goals, Rai also is among the team leaders in assists with 28.
Seattle also is led by goalkeeper Calvin Pickard, a 17-year-old from Winnipeg Manitoba who earlier this season was ranked as the No. 1 goalie in the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings for players eligible for the 2010 NHL Draft.

T-Birds’ single-game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
