Kent Police detectives have started an investigation into the discovery of two men found unconscious in a running vehicle. Police were called to the Somerset Apartments, 25200 109 Avenue SE at 2:18 p.m. today after a witness reported a suspicious situation at the address.
Police arrived to discover the door wedged closed with sounds of a running vehicle coming from within the unit. Kent Firefighters were summoned and were able to make entry.
Once inside the garage, police and firefighters found two male adults seated inside a mid-90s Chevrolet Caprice sedan. Paramedics determined that one man, a 30-year-old Kent resident, was deceased. The second man was alive, though near death.
Firefighters and paramedics were able to resuscitate the man and he was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown. Police have not confirmed the identity of the surviving man at this time.
Kent detectives are trying to determine why the two men were in the car in the garage. The survivor is a former tenant of the Somerset Apartments, but moved from his residence in September. The garage space where the two men were discovered was formally leased by him as well.
“This is a very unusual situation” said Kent Police Commander Pat Lowery. “The next step of our investigation is to determine what took the one man’s life, while waiting to see if we can talk to the other man”.
Detectives noted that they found no signs of violent trauma to either man during their initial investigation, but will await the results of toxicology tests to determine if anything else may have contributed to the situation.
