Five people, including two teens from Kent, were sent to hospitals last week after a high-speed, three-vehicle crash along Highway 167 in Auburn.

An 18-year Kent man drove a 2002 Mercedes 320, with three teen passengers, at a high rate of speed at about 2:06 a.m. on July 1 near 37th Street Northwest, and caused a three-car collision that sent the driver and four others to hospitals, according to a State Patrol media release.

Witnesses said the Mercedes traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and collided with a 2009 Dodge Journey, which caused the Dodge to roll onto its side into a ditch, injuring the driver, a 69-year-old Renton man, and the passenger, a 63-year-old Renton woman. Paramedics transported the man and woman to Multicare Auburn Medical Center.

Passengers injured in the Kent driver’s car included a 17-year-old Kent boy and a 16-year-old boy whose hometown was listed as unknown in the accident report. Paramedics took the driver and 17-year-old boy to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the other passenger to the Auburn hospital.

The Kent driver remained in serious condition in intensive care on Tuesday at Harborview, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The hospital had no information about the passenger.

Troopers reported it was unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

A 58-year-old Auburn man, the driver of a 1998 Honda Accord, was not injured.

Charges against the Kent driver are pending as the accident remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
