Kent Police cited a 65-year-old Puyallup man for running a red light after a two-vehicle crash that injured himself and one other driver at about 7:50 p.m. July 8 at the corner of South 196th Street and 68th Avenue South, also known as the West Valley Highway.

The man drove a panel repair truck westbound on South 196th Street that collided at the intersection with a pickup driven by a Kent woman northbound on 68th Avenue South. Both drivers were transported by paramedics to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for injuries.

A Kent Police spokesman said he did not have any details about the conditions of the man or the woman and that privacy laws make it difficult to get injury information.

There was no indication of reckless driving or intoxication by the panel truck driver, the spokesman said. Police did not know if the man wore a seatbelt or not.

The woman driver, whose age is in her 20s, wore a seatbelt.

Each vehicle had only one occupant.

Portions of the intersection were closed for more than one hour while tow trucks worked to upright the panel truck which had ended up on its side. Contents from the panel truck were thrown throughout the intersection.
