Paramedics took a woman to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday evening after another vehicle struck her SUV from behind in the 12700 block of Southeast 240th Street.

A small station wagon collided with the SUV and continued eastbound for one block before crashing through a fence and clipping the corner of an occupied apartment, according to a Kent Police media release. The car came to a stop after striking a large tree. The two adults in the station wagon were shaken up but declined aid from the Kent RFA firefighters.

A male passenger in the SUV did not require hospitalization.

A man in the struck apartment sat approximately 10 feet from the point of impact and was struck by flying glass. The man did not suffer any other injuries and did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Firefighters found debris for 100 feet around the impact site. The car ran over a barbecue propane bottle that flew and ended up against the apartment complex’s office more than 200 feet away. A city of Kent building official came to the scene to determine if the building was structurally affected. He recommended some shoring of the exterior for the safety of the occupants.
