Woman seriously injured in I-5 freeway crash in Kent

Vehicle struck on northbound shoulder just south of State Route 516

A woman suffered serious injuries when her vehicle was struck along the shoulder of Interstate 5 in Kent after the driver of a box truck reportedly fell asleep.

The early Thursday morning, May 20 crash in the 25200 block of northbound I-5, just south of State Route 516, aka Kent Des Moines Road, caused long delays for commuters with the two right lanes blocked for several hours.

Paramedics transported the female driver to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, according to a tweet from Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson.

“At this point no suspected impairment on box truck driver,” Johnson tweeted. “Car was stopped on shoulder when struck. Driver of box truck possibly fell asleep.”
