YMCA sets informational meetings about new Kent facility

People who want to know about programs and services to be offered at the new Kent YMCA when it opens next fall can attend an informational session Nov. 27 or 29 at the Matt Griffin YMCA in SeaTac, 3595 S. 188th St.

People also can learn about the different ways to get involved in the future vision of the new $36 million Kent YMCA. The meetings are in the Safeco room. No preregistration is required.

• Tuesday, Nov. 27: Noon to 1 p.m.

• Tuesday, Nov. 27: 6-7 p.m.

• Thursday, Nov. 29: Noon to 1 p.m. and also at 6 p.m.

The 50,000-square-foot Kent YMCA is scheduled to open in September on the East Hill between Morrill Meadows Park and East Hill Park near Southeast 248th Street and 104th Avenue Southeast.

The YMCA will include an aquatic center with lap lanes and family swim areas; dedicated community gathering spaces; a gym, group fitness and cardio spaces; indoor and outdoor recreation surrounded by Morrill Meadows Park; and significant expansion of school, child care and enrichment programs for youth. YMCA officials expect to have 11,000 members and serve another 11,000 people through community programs.

The YMCA is raising $26 million for the project with the city of Kent paying about $10 million.
