Federal Way woman, 21, dies in I-5 crash near S. 272nd St.

She was not wearing a seatbelt in March 2 incident, according to Washington State Patrol.

A Federal Way woman died in a crash on Interstate 5 on the border of Federal Way and Kent after striking another vehicle.

On March 2, the Washington State Patrol reported that a traffic collision at about 12:30 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5 near South 272nd Street resulted in the death of Federal Way resident Siham Hassan, 21.

According to the WSP, Hassan’s 2024 Mercedes GLS was totaled, and she was not wearing her seatbelt. The other person involved was a 47-year-old Gig Harbor man driving a 2024 Toyota Tacoma who was wearing his seatbelt, though he was injured.

“Unfortunately the driver had died as a result of the collision,” WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said on X. “Investigation still ongoing in the area.”

According to WSP, Hassan was traveling northbound on I-5, just south of 272nd Street in lane five of five, and the Gig Harbor man was traveling in lane three. WSP reports that Hassan’s vehicle then struck the left side of the Gig Harbor man’s vehicle, and Hassan’s vehicle rolled multiple times and came to rest on its wheels in lane one of five.

WSP reports that the Gig Harbor man’s vehicle came to rest in the ditch on the left side. The roadway was blocked for 3 hours and 26 minutes. WSP reported that it’s unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
