Three juveniles, one of whom was carrying multiple firearms, and one adult were arrested after a reported shoplifting turned robbery at an Auburn grocery store.
The Auburn Police Department reported officers arrested four people — three juvenile males and one adult female — on April 15 following an alleged armed robbery at Haggen, 1406 Lake Tapps Parkway SE. The department reported that one of the juveniles was found to be carrying three handguns outfitted with extended magazines and “switches,” which make the guns fully automatic. One of the firearms was reported stolen.
According to the department, just before 4 p.m., officers were dispatched to Haggen after an employee reported being threatened with a firearm by a male suspect during a shoplifting incident. The suspect fled the scene in a blue Audi A4, which was identified using traffic cameras.
The department reported that officers then located the Audi A4 near Lakeland Hills Way Southeast and attempted a traffic stop, but ultimately, a PIT maneuver was used to safely bring the car to a stop. According to documents, all four in the vehicle were taken into custody without incident or injury.
The department stated that all four suspects were booked on probable cause for first-degree robbery. Additional charges could include second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
The department reported that the three juvenile suspects were transported to Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center in Tacoma, and the adult female was booked into the Pierce County jail in Tacoma.
The police department reported that a child who was also in the vehicle was safely released to a family member. It was not known at the time of the PIT maneuver that a child was inside the car, according to police.
Auburn Police did not release the ages of the juveniles or the adult female.
