Shooting in Auburn’s Veterans Memorial Park kills one

19-year-old man dies from single gunshot wound

A 19-year-old man died in a shooting at Veterans Memorial Park, 411 E. St. NE, on Wednesday evening, Feb. 23, according to Auburn Police.

The Auburn Police Department is investigating the case as a possible homicide, but as of Thursday afternoon police had no suspects in custody.

The victim’s name and his city of residence have not been released.

“We are currently waiting for autopsy results and detectives are following up on locating potential suspects,” Kolby Crossley, public information officer for the Auburn Police Department, said Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to the park at about 6:15 p.m after hearing from multiple neighbors that they had heard gunshots in the area and found the man on the ground with a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene.

Police do not yet have a motive for the shooting.
