Snow on the way Sunday; cold temps for a week

National Weather Services predicts 1 to 4 inches; high and low temps to drop below freezing

The National Weather Service predicts anywhere from 1 to 4 inches of snow in the Seattle area starting late Saturday night and into Monday.

While there might not be a lot of snow, temperatures will be very cold over the next week. The prediction for Tuesday is a high of 24 and a low of 16, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow around through Sunday night, according to the forecast. This will be the most likely snow period of accumulating snow for Western Washington. Amounts generally show 1 to 4 inches for most areas, with heavier amounts possible in areas of heavier banding.

Cold temperatures will be the main theme this weekend and through next week. Here’s a look at the timeline over the next few days.

Temperatures will be very cold Sunday through next week. Highs in the 20s for most locations, with morning temperatures in the teens to single digits across the area. The coldest temperatures will be Monday through Thursday.

• Friday: Rain, mainly after 5 pm. High near 42. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Friday night: Rain before 11 pm, then rain and snow likely between 11 pm and 2 am, then rain likely after 2 am. Low around 35. Calm wind becoming north northwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

• Christmas Day: Rain showers likely before 11 am, then snow showers, possibly mixed with rain. High near 38. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday night: Snow. Low around 27. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Sunday: Snow showers likely, mainly before 11 am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Sunday night: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 5 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

• Monday: A slight chance of snow showers before 11 am, then a chance of snow showers after 5 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24.

• Monday night: A chance of snow showers before 11 pm, then a chance of snow, mainly after 5 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15.

• Tuesday: A chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 24.

• Tuesday night: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.

• Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 26.

• Wednesday night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

• Thursday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32.
