Donald (Don) Eugene Vandel, age 75 of Kent, Washington, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, May 30, 2011. Don was born May 19, 1936 in Alliance, Nebraska to parents Julius and Helen Vandel. He is survived by his wife of 49 years and 362 days Carole Vandel, his children, Gregg Vandel and Donna (Vandel) Lantz, grandchildren Katrina, Kayla, Krista Sue, Amanda and Cassandra, and was the loving great grandfather to Ethan and Jayden. He is also survived by nephew and niece Joe and Joanne and sister in law Sharon of Denver, Colorado.

Don and Carole moved to Washington from Denver, Colorado in 1965 after Don was offered a job with Boeing as a machinist where he retired after 30 years of service. Don, a Veteran of the US Army, was an active member in his community, volunteering for nearly 25 years as the Kent Santa Claus and participating in the annual Kent Parade. He was active raising funds and donations for his favorite charities, Juvenile Diabetes and the Pediatric Interim Care Center (PICC). Don never met a stranger and will be missed greatly by his family and community. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6 at 3:00pm in the afternoon at the Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE 240th Street Kent, WA 98042. A wake will follow immediately after the service at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel, 27221 156th Avenue S.E. Kent, WA 98042.
