KDP golf event was a big success

The Kent Downtown Partnership recently hosted its first golf tournament. Much to our surprise, it was a huge success. It was only a surprise because we had not hosted one before.

The golf committee, Jason and Brandy Dollarhide and Frankie June of Down Home Catering, worked extremely hard to secure golfers, sponsors, hole sponsors and volunteers. They also hosted the prime rib and salmon dinner. Yum.

How did we measure our success? We measured it by the positive feedback we received from the golfers and Riverbend Golf Complex.

Of course, it could not have been as successful if it were not for the gracious help of the Riverbend team, ranging from the golf pro, Eric, to the people he employs and his volunteers. We were nervous starting the day but with their guidance we managed just fine.

As a nonprofit we are extremely appreciative of the golfers who participated as well as our sponsors. A couple of our larger sponsors were: Republic Services; Academy Mortgage; Kent Station; Dana Ralph; Bowen Scarff; Umpqua Bank; and Redfin. Then, of course, there were our many, many fabulous hole sponsors and golfers.

We appreciate all that everybody did to help us raise funds for our 2017 budget deficit. This went a long way to accomplishing that. We will see all of you next year at our second annual KDP Golf Tournament.

– Barb Smith, executive director, KDP
