Hundreds participate in Kent Christmas Rush run/walk

Seattle’s Nathan Morrisson wins 10K; Kent’s Travis Houser captures 5K

Nathan Morrisson, 23, of Seattle won the 42nd Christmas Rush 10K on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Kent.

Morrisson covered the course along the Green River in 33 minutes, 49.56 seconds, according to racing results at runsignup.com. Morrissson won the 10K Alaska Airlines Dawg Dash on Oct. 13 at the University of Washington.

Kent has 126 runners in the 10K and another 497 in the 5K run and walk, according to runsignup.com. Numerous participants dress up for the event.

James Roach, 39, of Auburn, took second in the 10K in 36:09.94; David Abdelmalek, 23, of Seattle, third in 36:57.32; Erik Church, 37, of Kent, fourth in 37:16.50; and Will Valerio, 17, of Black Diamond, took fifth in 37:27.67.

Daryl Marie Phill, 29, of Seattle, was the top 10K female finisher in 40:25.05. She was followed by Lillian Haas, 16, of Enumclaw, in second in 42:53.75; Sydney Kujala, 15, of Kent, in third in 44:16.59; Charlotte Coberly, 16, of Covington, in fourth in 44:16.75; and Heidi Kriss, 50, of Bonney Lake, in fifth in 45:40.1.

Top 5K finishers

Tristan Houser, 27, of Kent, won the 5K in 16:26.48. He was followed by Camden Jaureguy, 20, of Seattle, in second in 16:35.95; Kaiser Martin, 18, of Covington, in third in 16:42.92; Brian Esparza, 25, of Bellingham, in fourth in 16:54.66; and Nebay Kidane, 16, of Kent, in fifth in 17:13.98.

Katie Thompson, 33, of Kent, was the top 5K female runner in 19:00.4. Andrea Lin, 30, of Burien, took second in 19:05.43; Sarah Dickson, 19, of Kent, placed third in 19:46.31; Sarah Paquet, 25, of Seattle, took fourth in 20:10.42; and

The race started and finished at Hogan Park, 24400 Russell Road.
