Kent Reporter Athletes of the Week: Kent-Meridian

Alex Arians (Jr) swim and Aisha Hussein (Jr) wrestling take home this weeks awards.

The Kent Reporter athletes of the week for the week of Dec. 6 are from Kent-Meridian; Aisha Hussein (Jr.) Girls Wrestling, Alex Arians (Jr.) Swim.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Arians: I value loyalty, dedication, perseverance and comradery.

Hussein: I value the commitment and hard work and how much dedication our team puts in to get better.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Arians: That not everything can be done alone.

Hussein: I have learned that if you really want to succeed in something you made need to sacrifice.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Arians: When I am not motivated, I like to listen to music. It also helps me stay motivated.

Hussein: I have the mindset that there is someone out there training to get where I am at. So I have to work harder.

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Arians: Biscuits and gravy

Hussein: Turkey sandwich

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Arians: To ask a teammate or coach for help and to never give up.

Hussein: Never give up even if you have no hope.

From the sidelines:

Arians: Alex has shown determination and bravery by being the only boy swimmer from Kent-Meridian. Although we co-op practice with Kentwood he is the lone representative from Kent-Meridian. Most athletes in that situation would be tempted to quit, we are glad he didn’t.

Hussein: Aisha consistently shows up to practice willing to work hard, learn and encourage teammates. She brings a welcoming, can-do attitude to the team and treats opponents with respect and good sportsmanship.
