Kent Reporter Athletes of the Week: Kent-Meridian

Keira Wu (Jr. Tennis) and Kade Cagampang (Fr. Baseball) are this weeks winners.

The Kent Reporter athletes of the week for the week of Apr. 18 are from Kent-Meridian; Kade Cagampang (Fr.) baseball, Keira Wu (Jr.) tennis.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Cagampang: Being a leader and having the ability to pick up my team either winning or losing.

Wu: I value the amazing community that my team gives me. I do love tennis but even more, I love the joy and encouragement all my team members give me.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Cagampang:Learning to play the moment and not worry about mistakes and chill after the game.

Wu: I learned that good sportsmanship is definitely really important. It brings people up and lets everyone have a better time, which I think is the most important thing.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Cagampang:Remind myself what I am trying to achieve or reach.

Wu: I like to think about my team to motivate myself. I want to win the team match to boost team morale and team spirit.

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Cagampang:No I do not.

Wu: I don’t try to eat to heavy and I don’t have a favorite, but I do usually eat like a light snack bar or something.

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Cagampang:I would tell them to focus on what they can control and learn to have a short-term memory, especially in baseball.

Wu: To not worry about points. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the moment. Plus, you tend to perform better when you are in a better mood.

From the sidelines:

Cagampang:Kade helped lead us to two wins over Todd Beamer, both pitching hitting and catching. He is a team leader this season and has done a great job.

Wu: Keira is a great tennis player but an even better person. She is a leader on the team by being positive and encouraging her teammates to do their best. It is a pleasure having her on our team and being one of our captains.
