Kent Reporter athletes of the week: Kentridge

Genesis Miller (Sr.) volleyball and A.J. Singer III (So.) football, are this weeks winners.

The Kent Reporter Athletes of the Week for Oct. 10 are from Kentridge High School; Genesis Miller (Sr.) volleyball and A.J. Singer III (So.) football.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Singer: I value the chance everyday to go out everyday and compete and have fun with my coaches and brothers. I value football for the chance it gives me to be great for my team and the chance to take my football career to the next level.

Miller: I value the community and relationships you build with your teammates as we are all striving for similar goals and love the game of volleyball.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Singer:I have learned to stay disciplined and work no matter what you are feeling like.

Miller: Through volleyball I have learned lessons that will benefit me in the future, such as slumps and bad days will come. But if you keep working you will work your way up and confidence is crucial.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Singer:I still work and go out and give it my best, no matter how I am feeling. What keeps me motivated is proving doubters wrong and the opportunity to be great for the sport I love.

Miller:Teammates coach failure and success can lead all to motivation. However motivation can’t be the reason you keep working, it’s discipline

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Singer: Airheads bites candy.

Miller:My favorite pregame meal is an egg sandwich.

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Singer: I would tell them to keep faith in God and that he has a plan for you and everyone. I would tell them to keep working your butt off because it can end up rewarding you. For all the blood sweat and tears you have put into the sport you love.

Miller:If I had a teammate that was struggling, I would keep encouraging them. But also keep them accountable and push them to continue working hard.

From the sidelines:

Singer: A.J is what every coach looks for in a player. He works hard, pushes his teammates to always be better. His dedication to his craft has rewarded him this season. Through 4 games he leads the NPSL in receptions and is on pace for 75+ catches and 1,000 yards. His week one game he went for 10+ catches and 120 yards.

Miller: Genesis led our volleyball team in hitting last week. She hit .303 with 38 kills and 2 blocks. She also had 22 digs and was a leading passer in serve receive. Genesis is also our team captain. Genesis leads by example and is the hardest worker on the team
