Reese McGuire, a 2013 Kentwood High graduate, continues to impress as a Major League Baseball prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

MLB.com ranked McGuire, a catcher, 13th on its Top 20 Prospects list of players who recently competed in the Arizona Fall League. McGuire played for the Glendale team. He is considered the Pirates No. 6 overall prospect with an estimated arrival season of 2017 in the majors.

Here’s what MLB.com said about McGuire’s performance in Arizona.

“Unquestionably the best defensive catcher in the Fall League, he’s an advanced receiver for a 20-year-old and has plus arm strength as well. McGuire makes contact at the plate but needs to add strength so he can drive the ball more consistently.”

The Pirates drafted McGuire, who bats left and throws right, with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 draft. He signed out of high school for $2.3 million.

This past minor league season, McGuire batted .254 with no home runs, 34 RBI and and 14 stolen bases. He played at the Class A-Advanced level for Brandenton in the Florida State League.
