Kentwood High grad wins Kent Cornucopia Days 5K Run

Ryan Stamper, 19, of Covington takes title after finishing 10th in 2024; Tacoma woman top female finisher

Ryan Stamper, of Covington, a former Kentwood High School runner, took first place in the annual Kent Cornucopia Days 5K Fun Run.

Stamper, 19, covered the course, which started and ended at the Three Friends Fishing Hole along the Green River, in 16 minutes. 37.07 seconds. He placed 10th in the race last year in 18:12.5.

At Kentwood, Stamper placed eighth in the 400 meters at the Class 4A state track and field meet in 2024. He finished 103rd in the 2023 Class 4A state cross country meet. He was an October 2023 Kent Reporter Athlete of the Week.

Stamper ran cross country last fall and competed in track and field in the spring for Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.

Jacob Fullen, 34, of Lynnwood, took second in the Cornucopia Days race in 17:08.55. Fullen won the race in 2022. James Roach, 40, of Auburn, placed third in 17:24.17. Roach took second in 2023.

Six of the top 10 finishers and 10 of the top 15 were ages 15 to 19.

Amanda Skrivanich, 43, of Tacoma, was the top female finisher in 19:43.74, which was 17th overall out of 423 participants. Maya Wentworth, 14, of Federal Way, placed second among females in 20:19.98, which was 24th overall.

Abigail Collier, 17, of Federal Way, took third among females in 20:20.1, which was 25th overall.
