The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Victoria Royals 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at the Save-On-Foods Center in Victoria, B.C.

The Royals elected to shoot first in the shootout. Kevin Sundher was up first for the Royals and Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped him with a pad save. Branden Troock was the T-Birds first shooter and he had Victoria goalie Keith Hamilton beat but the puck rolled off his stick.

Robin Soudek was the second shooter for Victoria and he was able to convert with a quick shot over Pickard’s glove to give the Royals a 1-0 lead in the shootout. The T-Birds sent out Burke Gallimore as their second shooter. Gallimore came down on Hamilton and at the hash marks between the circles beat Hamilton with a hard snap shot over the glove.

Jamie Crooks was the third shooter for Victoria. Pickard stopped Crooks attempt at the left post. Marcel Noebels had the chance to win the game for the T-Birds but was denied by Hamilton.

With the shootout tied 1-1 it went to sudden death. Steven Hodges was sent over the boards by the Royals. Pickard made a juggling save and was able to keep the puck out of the net. T-Birds captain Luke Lockhart was the fourth Seattle shooter. He came down on Hamilton and beat the goalie low to get the T-Birds the win.
