R.E.V. Racing’s Mach One Rules has been assigned high weight of 123 pounds for the 82nd running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (Grade 3) on Sunday, Aug. 13.
Winner of the $50,000 Mt. Rainier Stakes and $50,000 Budweiser Stakes, Mach One Rules has been the top local horse this year for trainer Frank Lucarelli and owners Roy and Ellie Schaefer. A 4-year-old Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold, Mach One Rules is 6-5-2 in 15 career starts with earnings of $209,356.
Defending Longacres Mile champion Point Piper and Governor’s Stakes winner Barkley are next on the weights at 121 pounds apiece, while Bistraya, Gold Rush Dancer and Stryker Phd received 120 lbs each.
In his lone appearance at Emerald Downs, Point Piper set a track and state record 1:32.90 while romping by 4½ lengths in the 2016 Longacres Mile. A 7-year-old Giant’s Causeway horse, Point Piper has regularly faced many of the world’s fastest horses, finishing runner-up to two-time North American Horse of the Year California Chrome last December at Los Alamitos and second to multiple Grade 1 winner Midnight Storm last November at Del Mar.
Bistraya finished second to Mach One Rules in the Mt. Rainier, Gold Rush Dancer has won multiple stakes vs. state-breds in California, and Stryker Phd is a two-time Longacres Mile winner poised to appear in the race for a fifth straight year.
