The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds in a Western Hockey League game 6-2 at Rogers Place in Alberta on Saturday night.

The T-Birds, 1-1 on their East road trip, play the Calgary Hitmen at 5 p.m. Monday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Edmonton (10-1-3-0) took a 1-0 lead on Josh Williams’ power-play goal at 12:02 of the first period.

The Oil Kings made it a 3-0 lead with goals by Dylan Guenther at 3:47 and Conner McDonald at 12:09 of the second period.

Seattle (4-5-2-1) started the comeback late in the second period with two goals in 1:04.

Michael Horon passed the puck to Matthew Wedman in the right circle. Wedman put a backhand shot on Edmonton goalie Sebastian Cossa with Henrik Rybinski going hard to the net. The puck rebounded off into the low slot and Rybinski chipped it past the goalie from in close at 13:44.

Wedman cut the Oil Kings lead to one goal at 14:48 of the second. He skated down the left wing and beat Cossa with a wrist shot from the left circle for his fourth goal of the season. Zach Ashton and Ryan Gottfried had the assists.

Guenther scored at 6:27 of the third and Riley Sawchuk scored at 9:23 to give Edmonton a 5-2 lead. Guenther added an empty-net goal at 18:58 of the third.
