Kentlake High School’s Emma Hartvickson, volleyball, was selected as the Covington Maple Valley Reporter’s Female Athlete of the Week for Sept. 28.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: My favorite subject in school is science and math! I have amazing teachers in my classes this year that make me a better student and a better person!

Q: What other activities do you participate in?

A: Some hobbies I enjoy are volleyball (obviously), swimming, hiking, playing tennis, art and hanging with my friends!

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: This question is hard because I have so many people in my life that support me everyday and encourage me to follow my dreams. But I would have to say my mom, Jennifer Hartvickson, and my dad, Derek Hartvickson, have helped me succeed the most. They push me to work hard and bring out the best parts of myself, on and off the court and I love them for that.

Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?

A: My pre-game ritual is listening to Jump Around by House of Pain and then I drink my favorite flavor of Gatorade — light blue.

Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?

A: “Like It” by Cardi B

From the Sideline

“Emma Hartvickson is averaging .264 hitting percentage, totally 48 kills (12 kills per match). Last week, Emma hit .260 with only seven errors. Emma is leading KL with three service aces per match. She is a steady, even keel emotional player. She is helping lead Kentlake, along with co-captain Emma Agostini, to establish strong team bonds and a leadership style that will demonstrate the type of teamwork, effort and attitude it takes to have a successful season.”
