The Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds got goals from four players Friday afternoon to defeat the Tri-City Americans 4-1 in their first game at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament at Comcast Arena.

Goalie Logan Flodell played the whole game for the T-Birds and stopped 28 of 29 shots he faced to get the win.

Carter Folk had a goal and an assist and Mitch Elliot had two assists in the game.

The T-Birds play the Victoria Royals on Saturday at 3 p.m. and the Spokane Chiefs at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the tournament.

Seattle (1-0-0-0) took a 1-0 lead at 12:51 of the first period. Folk moved the puck up the right boards in the neutral zone to Elliot to create a two-on-one break. Elliot came into the Tri-City zone with Michal Holub on his left. Elliot centered the puck to Holub who redirected the puck over the blocker of Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie.

Tri-City (0-1-0-0) tied the game 1-1 at 13:41 of the second period on a goal from Taylor Vickerman. Ty Comrie and Tyson Dallman had the assists.

The T-Birds took a 2-1 lead with 1:15 left in the second period. Austin Douglas put a wrist shot on goal from the right point. The puck came loose to Folk at the right post and he banged it under the goalie’s left leg.

The T-Birds took a 3-1 lead on a power-play goal from Mathew Barzal at 5:33 of the third period. Roberts Lipsbergs gained the zone on the right side. He moved the puck to Lane Pederson coming down the slot as he entered the offensive zone. Pederson dropped the puck to Barzal. Barzal put the puck on his backhand, brought it back to his forehand and hit the top right corner of the net with his shot, beating the goalie over the glove.

Seattle extended the lead to 4-1 less than two minutes after Barzal’s goal. Jerret Smith shot the puck up the right boards and the puck ricocheted off the glass right to Keegan Kolesar in the high slot. Kolesasr beat the goalie with a quick wrist shot.

Seattle outshot Tri-City 35-29.
